Mo Farah has been taken to hospital after collapsing following the double-Olympic champion's second place finish at the New York City half marathon.

Farah, 30, finished second behind Kenya's Georffrey Mutai in 61 minutes and 8 seconds but after a sprint finish to the line with third-placed Stephen Sambu, fell to ground before receiving immediate medical attention.

After being taken away in a wheelchair Farah failed to fulfil post-race media duties but is understood to be "fine". The incident has been attributed to the dramatic change in temperature having spent two months high-altitude training in Kenya.

The race was Farah's first competitive outing since the Great North Run last September and was being used as preparation ahead appearing in the London Marathon on 13 April after he completed half the distance in 2013.
