Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx is set to give a stiff competition to Apple iPhone 4S.

Motorola has packed gigantic features into Droid RAZR Maxx. The smartphone is now up for sale at Verizon. Even though Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx is thicker than the original RAZR, it is very thin compared to iPhone 4S and Galaxy Nexus.

The only difference with original Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR Maxx is the thickness and the battery capacity, giving the added advantage of talk time and making full use of 4G LTE power.

Here is a look at how Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx differs from iPhone 4S.

Connectivity:
Motorola's latest smartphone has the advantage of 4G LTE network whereas iPhone 4S is stuck with slow EV-DO Rev.A 3G data. However, iPhone 4S scores over Droid RAZR Maxx with world phone feature which is not available on Motorola's smartphone. And the other major difference of Droid RAZR Maxx is that it has microHDMI port for mirroring the phone on the HDTV while iPhone 4S requires the help of dongles.

Software: Android and iOS handsets differ when it comes to software, giving out the best functionalities with their applications.

The biggest plus point for iPhone 4S is its voice recognition software known as Siri whereas Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx users can make excellent use of preinstalled apps like MOTOPRINT for wireless printing and "Smart Actions," which is designed to give users the ability to assign certain triggers while performing a specific action.

The new app provides task automation in a simpler interface. Users can set triggers for location, timeframe, battery level, headphones, missed calls or a few other factors. For example, arriving at your office could prompt putting your ringer on silent and users can set function of turning down the display and letting the ringer turn up when you get home.

Other important usage includes launching Google Music or your favourite music/podcast app automatically when headphones are plugged-in and send a text message when leaving a site or when you miss a call. Also at 40% power, it can dim the display; at 30%, it can slow down data usage.

Google services work best on Android handsets compared to iOS-powered iPhone 4S. Voice recognition software is also available in Android devices. However, iPhone 4S is slightly ahead with Siri as the intelligence of the voice recognition software is better than the Android voice recognition app.

Although Droid RAZR Maxx features Android OS version 2.3.5 operating system, an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich will be seen in near future.

Battery: One of the main features of Droid RAZR Maxx is its enormous 3300mAh battery which gives almost double the talk time compared to other smartphones in the market. Motorola's gives up to 21h of talk time and up to 368 h of standby time. Moreover, the smartphone is priced at $299.99, the same price tag given to original Droid RAZR during its launch last year. In fact, Droid RAZR features a 1,780mAh battery giving up to 12 h of talk time and at present the Droid RAZR price is reduced to $199.99. On the other hand, Apple iPhone 4S with its Li-Po 1432 mAh gives up to 8h of talk time.

Design: The Kevlar coating on back and the metal frame on Droid RAZR Maxx are undeniably a great design achievement by Motorola. The phone is designed in such a fashion as to withstand the occasional drop, scratch and liquid spill.

Meanwhile, iPhone 4S uses unique glass shell which brings about premium feeling. However, Droid RAZR Maxx (9mm) is thinner than iPhone 4S (9.3mm) for a phone featuring twice the battery capacity of iPhone 4S and Droid RAZR Maxx has a bigger display of 4.3-inch compared to iPhone 4S which features a 3.5-inch screen. Also watching movies and playing games is more convenient on Droid RAZR Maxx bigger screen than iPhone 4S smaller display screen.

Processor: The Motorola's smartphone comes with 1.2 GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor while iPhone 4S features an 800 Mhz processor.

And other features not found on iPhone 4S include HDMI port, card slot, flash support, 1 GB RAM, Glonass (for Russian citizens) and DLNA. The original Droid RAZR is already available in the UK for as little as £399. However, Droid RAZR Maxx price is yet to be announced in the UK.
