Nina Davuluri has been crowned Miss America 2014.

The New York-based beauty made history after becoming the first American contestant of Indian origin to win the pageant.

Davuluri wowed the judges at the annual event held at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey with her classical and Bollywood fusion dance.

"I'm so happy this organisation has embraced diversity," Davuluri said. "I'm thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America."

The 24-year-old wants to pursue a career in medicine and intends to apply to medical schools with the help of the scholarship she won at the pageant.

Davuluri joins former Miss World Aishwarya Rai and Slumdog Millionanire star Freida Pinto are just two of the many Indian stars who has enchanted the world with their looks and grace.
