World No 1 Novak Djokovic will take on David Ferrer in the Men's quarter final clash of the 2014 Shanghai Masters at Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena on Friday.

Overview

The Serbian won the Shanghai Masters two years in a row and the 27-year-old would be looking to win it for the third time this year. Djokovic had to fight to make it to the last eight of the ongoing tournament.

The World No 1 registered a victory over Mikhail Kukushkin in the third round on Thursday to reach the quarter finals. He won the first set 6-3, before losing the next set to the Kazakh professional tennis player.

However, Djokovic bounced back in the third and the final set to win the match 6-3, 4-6. 6-4. A victory on Friday will see him make it to the semifinals of this year's Shanghai Masters.

Meanwhile, Ferrer had a tough time in his opening two fixtures as he won both the matches in the final set. In the third round clash, the Spaniard knocked tournament favourite and two-time Shanghai Masters winner Andy Murray on Thursday.

Ferrer defeated Murray 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 to set up a clash against Djokovic in the quarter final. He is aware of the Serbian's impressive record in the tournament and would be keen to stop him from making it to the last four.

Head-To-Head

Djokovic holds a comfortable lead of 12-5 over Ferrer in overall meetings. The pair have clashed in five Grand Slam events and the Serbian tennis ace came out victorious on all occasions. In the last five meetings, Djokovic has a 5-0 lead over Ferrer.

Shanghai Masters History

Djokovic has never faced Ferrer in the Shanghai Masters and the pair will face each other for the first time on Friday.
