U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and President Donald Trump have shared a controversial relationship for well over a decade. Her steadfast loyalty to him often raises eyebrows, leading many to question her professional priorities. In fact, critics frequently point out that her career path seems closely linked to keeping the president out of legal trouble.

The relationship began during her tenure as Florida's attorney general, a period marked by controversial financial contributions. Since those interactions, her official actions consistently favoured the current president through multiple high-profile legal battles and political crises.

How a £19,750 Donation Altered Trump University Legal Action

In the early 2000s, Donald Trump operated an educational programme that allegedly defrauded thousands. Many students lost their life savings, and one army Gold Star widow was reportedly cheated out of her husband's death benefit, with participants claiming they were pressured to hand over funds but received no tangible instruction. Trump marketed the programme, stating, 'At Trump University, we teach success. That's what it's all about success.'.

During her 2013 reelection campaign, Bondi personally requested a political contribution from Trump. Around the same time, she informed the Orlando Sentinel that her office was reviewing whether to join other states in legal action against the university.

Four days after that article was published, her political action committee received a £19,750 ($25,000) cheque from the Trump Foundation. This violated federal regulations because the foundation operated as a 501(c)(3) registered charity, which cannot fund political campaigns.

After cashing the illegal payment, Bondi's office declared it would not proceed with any legal measures, while the foundation subsequently submitted falsified tax documents to conceal the donation.

Ignoring Abuse Allegations While Permitting Jeffrey Epstein to Walk Free

Bondi's record as attorney general faces intense criticism regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case. She was not responsible for the 2008 sweetheart plea deal that allowed the financier to escape serious punishment. That arrangement was negotiated by Alex Acosta, who later served as Trump's first labour secretary.

However, Bondi campaigned on a platform dedicated to bringing such offenders to justice. She publicly promised voters, 'I'll fight to put human trafficking monsters where they belong, behind bars.'. Despite serving as the state's top legal officer for eight years, she took no definitive action as Epstein resided in Florida and survivors shared fresh allegations.

Her inaction has drawn renewed attention following recent developments. Bondi reportedly attempted to redact 1 million plus references to Trump within newly examined Epstein legal documents. She recently refused to speak with survivors or even acknowledge them when they stood directly behind her during a public appearance.

Defending Presidential Controversies and Withholding £316 Million in Aid

The alliance solidified further when Bondi served on the defence team during Trump's initial impeachment proceedings. The case centred on allegations that the president illegally delayed £316 million ($400 million) in military assistance to Ukraine. He reportedly demanded President Volodymyr Zelensky announce an investigation into the Biden family before releasing the funds.

Following her defence work, she backed his political manoeuvres, including efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. Her loyalty culminated in her appointment as the nation's highest-ranking legal officer.

In a similar vein, Todd Blanche, the personal defense attorney who handled Trump's criminal trial in New York, was tapped to serve as deputy attorney general.

A recent news shed light on these long-standing connections and how they continue to influence federal justice policies. Bondi, it seems, has routinely leveraged her position to shield the president from facing any real consequences.
