Overview

Eight-time Monte Carlo winner Rafael Nadal will look to begin his quest for the ninth title as he takes on British player Aljaz Bedene on 13 April. After a disastrous 2015, the Spaniard is still not in top form, as seen by the results he has posted this year. However, Nadal has shown glimpses of returning to his old self.

The 14-time Grand Slam Champion has not won a single title this year and will be looking to win the Monte Carlo Masters in what is one of his favourite tournaments and on his preferred clay surface. Just how his body will hold up is another matter but the Spaniard has confirmed that he is fit and raring to go.

World number 60 Aljaz Bedene will be making his first appearance at Monte Carlo and will want to impress. The Brit though has had a poor start to the season and what affects his game is his inconsistency. He is just not able to play a full tennis game in full flow. Despite Nadal looking a shadow of his former self, it will be a surprise if Bedene wins this clash.
