Root Galaxy Note 2 N7100 on Android 4.1.2 XXDMA5 Official Jelly Bean Firmware [Tutorial]
Galaxy Note 2 N7100 users who have already updated their device to the latest official Jelly Bean firmware - Android 4.1.2 XXDMA5, will lose root access to the device soon after installing the firmware. In order to restore root and be able to install root-based apps, affected users must root the device again. IBTimes UK is providing a step-by-step guide to root the device using ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM).
Key Points to Note
- Android 4.1.2 XXDMA5 official firmware and the instructions given in this guide are applicable for the Galaxy Note 2 N7100 model only and will not work with any other device. Verify the device's model number by navigating to Settings > About Phone.
- Verify that correct USB drivers are installed for the phone on computer. Download Samsung Galaxy Note 2 USB drivers.
- Backup important data and settings on the phone. It is recommended to backup data using one of the custom recovery tools such as ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP recovery. Avoid using either Samsung KIES or ROM manager, as it may damage or brick the device.

How to Root Galaxy Note 2 N7100 on Android 4.1.2 XXDMA5 Official Jelly Bean Firmware
Step 1 - Download Android 4.1.2 CWM + Rooting Package for Galaxy Note 2 N7100 on the computer.
Step 2 - Download ODIN v1.85 which is needed to root Android 4.1.2 XXDMA5 on the Galaxy Note 2.
Step 3 - Power off your phone and boot into Download Mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Down and Home buttons together, and then tap the Power button, till the Samsung logo or the red and yellow text appears on the screen.
Step 4 - Launch ODIN on computer and connect the phone to it while the phone is still in Download Mode.
Step 5 - When the phone connects successfully, one of the ID:COM boxes will turn yellow with the corresponding COM port number. This step may be time-consuming (take about 5 minutes). So, leave it alone.
Step 6 - Now, choose the files that need to be flashed or installed on the phone, which can be found among the extracted files in Step 1.
- Click the 'PDA' button and choose the file named "cwm6-root-note2.tar".
Step 7 - In ODIN, enable Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options.
Step 8 - Then tap the Start button in ODIN and the root installation process will begin. It could take just a few minutes to complete.
Step 9 - Once the root is installed, the phone will reboot automatically. When the home screen appears, just disconnect the phone from computer.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 is now rooted on Android 4.1.2 XXDMA5 firmware update. Check for the SuperUser app in your apps list to verify if the root installation is successful.
