The celebrity contingent have been in full on festival mode as they converge on Coachella for the weekend long music and arts fest.

Stars such as Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner and Rita Ora joined over 200,000 revellers for an epic weekend of music ahead as the festival returns for the 18th time.

Models mingled with headlining acts, and among the famous faces letting their hair down there were some loved-up celebrity couples and a few surprise appearances along the way.

Making her first public appearance following the fallout from the Pepsi fiasco, Kendall Jenner put her recent troubles behind her as she attended two Coachella parties.

Wearing a bottom-baring sheer skirt and crop top the 21-year-old was co-hosting a dating party with sister Kylie Jenner for Bumble.

Lady Victoria Hervey made her first public appearance after a trying week amid revelations of a threesome with Mel B and her husband Stephen Belafonte.

Nailing the festival look the socialite donned denim shorts and a patterned blouse as she prepared to party the night away.

Sofia Richie hit the Midnight Garden After Dark party at the NYLON Estate with pal Rita Ora in tow. The 18-year-old who is the daughter of Lionel Richie, arrived at the festival in style, flying in on a helicopter with friends Chloe Bartoli, model Jessica Hart, Chantelle Waters and Poppy Delevingne.

The all girl posse posed for a photo with the pilot adding the caption: "Girls trip."

Showcasing her unique festival style, she later donned a khaki boiler suit as she headed for the Coachella bash with Ora.

Celebrity couples were out in force with Selena Gomez and The Weeknd proving their romance is still going strong. The pair packed in the PDA's in the VIP section before The Weeknd real name Abel Tesfaye took to the stage as a 'surprise' last minute performer.

Other last minute additions to the all-star line-up were Sean 'Diddy' Combs, French Montana, Rae Sremmurd and Wale.

"We're making this announcement that you guys are going to be able to follow us live all through Coachella," the I'll Be Missing You rapper said.

"I got this Revolt House in Coachella," he added. "I'm just sponsoring the party but a lot of younger children, they're going to be having a good time, I'm the facilitator."

Rocking out at the music festival are headlining acts Lady Gaga, Radiohead, Lorde, Tove Lo and Kendrick Lamar.

Replacing Beyonce, who pulled out after announcing she is pregnant with twins, Radiohead took to the stage on Friday, but their set was beset with technical problems prompting the band to walk off the stage twice.

Also performing are The XX, Empire Of The Sun, Phantogram, Crystal Castles, Father John Misty, Bon Iver, Future, Gucci Main, DJ Snake, Two Door Cinema Club, Bastille, Lorde, New Order, Future Islands, Thundercat and Hans Zimmer

Kendrick Lamar closes the festival this Sunday, before the performers return for another weekend of great music.
