It was supposed to be a celestial phenomenon that took our breath away. Brits from across the country got ready on 20 March to see the first solar eclipse witnessed in the UK this century. But for the millions who live and work in London, the event turned out to be a crushing disappointment as the reliably miserable British weather obscured the view with thick clouds across the sky.

IBTimes UK set up a camera in order to capture a timelapse video of the supposedly spectacular event, and whilst you can definitely see the sky turn dark during the eclipse, there were no coronas, diamond rings or Bailey's beads in sight.

Unfortunately, we'll now have to wait until 2026 for a solar eclipse of a similar magnitude. Let's just hope the weather is better then.
