Roger Federer continues to make tennis history, this time by winning his eighth men's Wimbledon title in a match against Marin Cilic on 16 July. This cup brings his total count of Gran Slam wins to a record 19 and makes him one of the most formidable players in the game.

"You go through these waves of highs and lows and try to navigate through, and it's not always simple," Federer said in an interview soon after the match. "It's actually quite difficult with the amount of things in my life. You've got to still stay focused at the end of the day, and I was able to do that."

"#19 tastes great," the 35-year-old later added in a post on Twitter following his victory; and he was not the only one to take the celebrations to social media. Celebrities and fans posted comments from the start of the match right through his 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 straight-sets victory.

"Leo Messi, Michael Jordan, Roger Federer. The best I've seen," Spanish footballer Gerard Pique wrote, while The Chainsmokers took to their Twitter account to post: "Wow Rodger Federer. Unbelievable champion."
