Where to Watch Live

Kick-off is at 12:45pm GMT. Live coverage is on BT Sport 1. Radio commentary of the game will be available on BBC Radio 5 Live. Catch the highlights of the game on Match of the Day on BBC One and BBC One HD at 10:30pm GMT.

Overview

The last time these two sides faced each other in the Premier League saw the match end in a goalless draw at Anfield last month. Gus Poyet has seen his side manage only one win after their victory over Newcastle United.

In the last fixture, the Black Cats managed to seal a narrow 1-0 win over Leeds United in order to progress to the next round of the FA Cup. In the Premier League, Sunderland have not managed to impress so far this season as they managed 20 points from the first 20 games.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have also progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 away victory over AFC Wimbledon earlier this week. It was Steven Gerrard's brace that helped them qualify to the next stage of the FA Cup.

The former England international has scored four times in two matches since he announced his decision to leave Liverpool after the end of the season. Manager Brendan Rodgers will be hoping his skipper could find the back of the net once again on Saturday afternoon.

The Merseyside club are eight in the table with 29 points from 20 games, trailing fourth place Southampton by seven points.

What Managers Say

Gus Poyet: "When you think that we had Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool in one week (in early December), and then three weeks later we played Man City and Liverpool again (in early January) – it's not normal, I'm sorry."

Brendan Rodgers: "In any game of football, no matter how dominant you are, there's always a period of pressure that you will come under. It doesn't matter if you have the ball a lot of the game, you still have to defend at some points in that game and, of course, you have to remain calm."
