Owners of Microsoft's Lumia 1020, who are on America's premier wireless service provider AT&T, should observe the Lumia Cyan update and the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system very shortly, as AT&T has announced the rollout of the upgrades to its Lumia 1020 users in the US.
One major enhancement that the Windows Phone 8.1 update brings along is Microsoft's personal digital assistant (PDA) Cortana, which was available only to select Windows Phone 8.1 users in the US.
With this, Cortana is surely the USP of Windows Phone 8.1, apart from other aspects of the update.
"Cortana is the only smartphone assistant who can set reminders by people, as well as by time or location. She can remind you to stop and pick up flowers on the way home from work or remind you to say "congratulations on getting the promotion!" when an important client sends you an email," states an official AT&T blog post.
With Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Cyan updates having reached Lumia 1020, owners of the device join owners of other Lumia smartphones like Lumia 1520, Lumia 520 and Lumia 925, to receive the upgrades.
Enhancements brought along by the Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Cyan updates:
One major enhancement that users can check out is Microsoft's PDA Cortana that seemingly played hide and seek recently in countries like India, Australia and the United Kingdom.
Windows Phone 8.1 update also features Microsoft's Internet Explorer 11 web browser, a customisable lockscreen, pull down notification bar and an extra 'live tiles' column (optional) on the homescreen.
Also, according to AT&T, users can check out in the Windows Phone 8.1 update, the Word Flow Keyboard.
"The updated Word Flow keyboard with Windows Phone 8.1 knows your contacts, learns your phrases and has shape writing integrated right in so there's no need for a separate app," states AT&T.
On the other hand, Lumia Cyan is a firmware upgrade and is applicable to Lumia smartphones only. This update brings camera and camera roll enhancements to Lumia smartphones.
With the Lumia Cyan update, owners of Lumia smartphones can save games and applications directly to a microSD card.
To install the update, Lumia 1020 smartphone owners can click the Settings Live Tile > then tap Phone Update , to download the upgrades.
