God of War Remake: PlayStation Confirms Original Trilogy Getting Full Remake After 20-Year Anniversary
Sony's State of Play reveals a remake of the 'God of War' trilogy with TC Carson reprising his iconic role

TC Carson hasn't voiced Kratos in over a decade. That changes now.
Sony Santa Monica announced a full remake of the original God of War trilogy during Thursday's State of Play broadcast. The studio is rebuilding God of War, God of War II, and God of War III for modern platforms. But for fans who grew up with the Greek-era games, the bigger story is who's back behind the microphone.
Carson delivered the announcement himself. It's his first official involvement with the franchise since 2013's Ascension.
Why Carson's Return Matters

Here's the backstory.
Carson voiced Kratos in every Greek-era title from 2005 to 2013. He screamed the battle cries. He delivered the one-liners. For millions of players, his voice was Kratos.
Then came God of War (2018). Christopher Judge took over the role. Sony never called Carson.
In previous interviews, Carson described the recasting as unceremonious. The studio's official explanation? They wanted one actor for both voice and motion capture work. Carson's body type didn't match the older, bearded Norse-era Kratos.
Fans never fully accepted the switch. Online forums buzzed with theories about what really happened. Some speculated a falling out. Others blamed budget decisions. Sony stayed quiet.
Now, Carson is back. Whether this marks a formal reconciliation or simply a business decision, the outcome is the same: the voice that defined Kratos will define him again.
'This project is still in the early stages,' Carson said in the reveal. 'Next time we come back, we're coming with something big, baby.'
A Surprise Game You Can Play Today
Sony didn't just announce a remake years away from release. They dropped something playable right now.
God of War: Sons of Sparta launched Thursday on PlayStation 5. It's a 2D action platformer priced at $29.99 (£22.01) for the standard edition and $39.99 (£29.36) for the digital deluxe version.
The game tells a canonical story set during Kratos's harsh training at the Agoge alongside his brother Deimos. According to the PlayStation Blog, the writing team behind God of War (2018) and Ragnarök crafted the narrative. Retro gaming specialists Mega Cat Studios handled development.
Carson narrates the game as adult Kratos. So before the trilogy remake arrives, fans already have new TC Carson content to experience.
What We Know About the Remake
Not much. Sony confirmed the project is in 'very early development.' No release date. No gameplay footage. No platform details beyond an assumed PS5 launch.
The original God of War hit PlayStation 2 in March 2005. God of War II followed in 2007. God of War III arrived on PlayStation 3 in 2010. Only the third game received a PS4 remaster in 2015. The first two remain locked to aging hardware.
'We know that remaking the Greek saga has been a frequent request,' Sony Santa Monica wrote in the announcement. 'The genuine, passionate interest from fans to see the original games return is something we're very thankful for.'
The Bigger Picture
The 20th anniversary of God of War wraps up in March 2026. Sony is closing it out with a promise and a product.
The promise: a rebuilt trilogy with the original voice of Kratos.
The product: a $29.99 (£22.01) game available right now.
For players who first heard TC Carson roar through their television speakers two decades ago, Thursday's news answered a question that lingered for years.
The voice is back. The wait for everything else continues.
