Who Is Behind Cyberleek? Take-Two Loses $2.8B as Alleged GTA 6 Leaker Threatens To 'Drop Big Files'

Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has lost $2.8 billion in market value in days, following a wave of alleged Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks posted online by an anonymous individual or group using the name CyberLeek days before its official Netflix trailer launch.

The Take-Two stock traded at around $248.13 per share on 18th August, and had fallen to $232.84 on 20th August as alleged GTA 6 game footage started emerging in a phased manner all over social media.

CyberLeek demands physical ownership of GTA 6 instead of a digital download code. The group has presented the leak as a protest against what it describes as anti-consumer practices in the games industry. Its stated demands include an end to digital pre-orders, no paid single-player DLC, and offline functionality for single-player games.

The unidentified individual or group posted leaked footage showing protagonist Jason Duval, Vice City locations, vehicles, and various gameplay mechanics. PC Gamer reported that elements in the videos, including an in-game radio track released in 2025, helped bolster the assessment that the material came from a relatively recent development build.

Shockingly, CyberLeek has also claimed to possess access to a playable GTA 6 PC build. However, claims about the extent of that access, including suggestions that the group possesses the complete game or could release major story material, remain speculations rather than independently established facts. Even ISO-format files are popping up on torrent websites, but gamers are yet to verify if it is the actual game, as they are concerned that it could be simply malware.

Note that this supposed campaign to democratise gaming has also been tied to a cryptocurrency token, adding a financial dimension to the supposedly consumer-rights protest. The leaker has subsequently offered advertising opportunities associated with its leak videos.

Take-Two Launches Legal Hunt for CyberLeek

Although the X community figured out that these CyberLeek accounts are fake after watermarks on the clips clearly mentioned 'cyberleek does not have Twitter,' the authenticity of the clips cannot be taken lightly.

On Aug. 20, Take-Two filed DMCA subpoena petitions seeking information from Microsoft and Discord that could help identify the people behind the leaked material. The requests relate to alleged copyright infringement, involving GTA 6 audiovisual material, artwork, images, dialogue, and other creative elements. The subpoenas set 4th September as the production deadline.

The requested information reportedly includes account identifiers, registration details, email addresses, IP addresses, telephone numbers, and information connected to linked accounts. Take-Two is also seeking information concerning a Microsoft/OneDrive account associated with the leaked material.

Meanwhile, Discord is being asked for information relating to accounts and servers where the leaked GTA 6 material was allegedly distributed.

The CyberLeek X accounts have been claiming that even the FBI is looking for the person behind the leaks. However, the person or the group appears to be still active, as they returned with a new GTA 6 clip titled 'Hypercar,' showing Jason interacting with a Truffade Thrax and driving through Vice City. According to Forbes, the video ran for about 2 minutes and 25 seconds before being taken down.

While a part of the social media community believes that CyberLeek's actions could actually democratise gaming, many are worried that it could ruin the experience altogether, as the unidentified person or group is now threatening to disclose how the GTA 6 game ends. As we near the 27th August official GTA 6 trailer launch on Netflix, Take-Two appears to be stuck in a race against time to prevent further leaks.
