Disaster hit thousands of O2 mobile phone customers around the UK who have been left without phone and mobile internet coverage since lunchtime yesterday as a result of a network service outage on the O2 network. The company has been working on solving the problem through the night, but this morning customers around the UK were still reporting a lack of service.

And in a statement released this morning O2 said the 2G network has been restored and that customers affected should now be able to make calls and receive text messages. The company went on to say that its "3G network is starting to restore and customer should expect to see a gradual return of data service as the day progresses."

But understandably this has caused outrage amongst O2 customers who have taken to Twitter to vent their anger, with many promising to change networks as a result of this problem.
