Tottenham are considering a move in signing AS Roma striker Mattia Destro in January, according to talkSPORT.

The 23-year-old has already bagged five goals from 16 appearances in the Serie A, which includes only eight starts. His contract with his current employers runs down in 2017 and despite that, he has been linked with a move to north London.

The Italian international is also on Tottenham's derby rivals Arsenal's radar and Destro admitted that reports linking him with the Gunners is good for him. Spurs are keen on bringing the striker to White Hart Lane as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Mauricio Pochettino has Harry Kane, Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado as the first choice strikers in the squad. The Spain international has struggled since joining Tottenham in the summer of 2013.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City striker featured in the Spurs' 1-0 Capital One Cup first leg win over Sheffield United after last playing for Tottenham in their home defeat against Stoke City.

With Kane as the main striker at the Lane, the former Southampton manager wants to bring in a player to support the English striker as they look to finish the season in the top four.

Pochettino is willing to use Vlad Chiriches as bait in their bid to land the Roma striker this month. The Romanian international has started in only five league games this season and is not being favoured by the Argentine manager.

Roma have long been interested in Tottenham centre-back and the Premier League outfit could use it in their favour to bring Destro to White Hart Lane.

Meanwhile, Roma manager Rudi Garcia has assured the club fans that Destro will not leave Stadio Olimpico midway through the season.

"Destro is our striker and he is very important for Roma. I count on him for the second part of the season. In my team not just the starting XI are important, but the 14 that play in a game," Garcia said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

However, talkSPORT reports that talks are ongoing between Tottenham and Roma for the transfer of Destro, which will see Chiriches move in the opposite direction in the winter transfer window.

With Kane as the main striker at the Lane, the former Southampton manager wants to bring in a player to support the English striker.

Should the report be true, the addition of Destro to Tottenham's attacking lineup will give Pochettino more options during his team selection for the second half of the season as they look to qualify for next season's Champions League.
