Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is ready to turn his attention to his former club Porto in order to try and sign Christian Atsu as he looks to further strengthen his options in midfield.

Spurs have already signed central midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson and it now appears as though Villas-Boas is looking for further options in wide areas as he looks to convince Atsu to follow him to England.

Sky Sports has reported that Villas-Boas plans to make an offer to the Portuguese champions for the youngster who is yet to break into the first team but was promoted to the squad by the new Tottenham manager.

Atsu was sent on-loan to Rio Ave last season in order to gain some vital first team experience and he certainly excelled by scoring six goals in his 27 league appearances, the most impressive of which came against Benfica back in December of last year.

The 20-year-old also did enough to impress his international coach at Ghana who promoted him to the senior squad where he scored on his debut against Lesotho in a World Cup 2014 qualifier in Kumasi.

Sky believes that while Tottenham will hope to convince Atsu to move to the Premier League, Porto still have high hopes for the winger and see him as part of their plans for the future.

The Portuguese side have enjoyed great success in recent season as they retained their league title, while two years ago under Villas-Boas they won the treble as he also led them to glory in the Portuguese Cup and the Europa League.

It also appears as though Tottenham are not the only club interested in the Ghana international as Liverpool and Everton have also been keeping tabs on the winger and have been linked with an approach this summer.
