Camilo Séptimo Musician, Pregnant Wife, Daughter, Nanny, and Dog Killed in Mexico as Boy, 6, Survives

Jonathan Meléndez, the 38-year-old keyboardist for Mexican indie rock band Camilo Séptimo, was found shot dead alongside his pregnant wife, their three-year-old daughter, their nanny and the family dog in an apartment near Mexico City late on Tuesday night, while the couple's six-year-old son was discovered alive and uninjured, officials said.

A six-year-old boy survived the incident unharmed, according to statements from the State of Mexico Attorney General's Office.

The bodies of the 38-year-old musician, his 35-year-old wife Ana Paola, and the two other victims were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds. Authorities noted that Ana Paola was four months pregnant at the time of the shooting.

Suspects Exploited Ties to the Musician

A joint operation on Wednesday involved the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office, the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security.

Authorities believe the shootings occurred between 5.30 p.m. and 7.40 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

Investigators cordoned off the residential area to gather forensic evidence from the property and interview witnesses in neighbouring buildings.

Law enforcement officials have detained two men in connection with the homicides. An associate of Meléndez, identified as Diego Sebastián 'N' (a designation used to comply with Mexican legal privacy conventions), is accused of being the probable perpetrator.

A second man, identified as Gerardo 'N', is also under investigation for his alleged involvement. It was not immediately clear whether the detainees had legal representation.

Omar García Harfuch, Mexico's secretary of security and citizen protection, stated that one of the suspects allegedly exploited an existing relationship with one of the victims to gain access to the home, meaning there was no forced entry.

Three of the victims, including the three-year-old girl, sustained gunshot wounds to the head. The fourth victim was shot in the back. The family dog was also found dead.

The prosecutor's office released a statement confirming the condition of the bodies upon discovery. 'Two of the victims were found with their hands bound,' the official record stated.

Investigators noted that the dog's legs were tied. Authorities confirmed the six-year-old boy was found physically uninjured and safely removed from the premises.

Tributes Paid to Musician and Nanny

The second adult female victim was formally identified as 21-year-old Aleida Romero Victorio. Her relatives confirmed to reporters that she was employed by the couple as a nanny.

Lorena Victorio Cabrera, the aunt of the childcare worker, spoke with the press regarding her niece. 'She was a very hardworking and responsible girl who did not deserve for this to be done to her,' she said.

Camilo Séptimo released a public statement addressing their followers on Instagram. 'Today we honor and celebrate his life, his music, his light, and what he shared with those of us fortunate enough to know him and walk alongside him,' the band wrote.

The two detained individuals remain in police custody as investigators compile their initial findings. Law enforcement agencies are working together to process all gathered evidence for the upcoming court proceedings.

The State of Mexico Attorney General's Office has indicated that further details regarding the circumstances of the killings and the legal status of the two detainees will be disclosed at the appropriate procedural stage.
