Chelsea have reportedly had a number of bids turned down for Brazilian defender Marquinhos, with the side showing last-minute interest in the youngster as deadline day nears its end.

The Blues have already signed defender Abdul Rahman Baba from Augsburg, but both Sky Sports and the Daily Mirror are reporting that Jose Mourinho is still be in action, negotiating with Paris Saint-Germain way into the final hours of the window.

Mourinho had insisted at the beginning of August that the club would not be involved in any deadline day moves, telling Jim White from Sky Sports: "I don't think we will do anything on deadline day but I will be enjoying your show for sure."

But Chelsea have begun their title defence in terrible fashion, and the slump in form could see the manager change his mind.

The Blues were believed to be pushing for John Stones from Everton to beef up their defence, but Roberto Martinez has so far stayed strong over the prospect of letting go of the wonderkid.

With that in mind, Chelsea reportedly turned their attentions to Marquinhos, who moved to PSG from Roma in 2013. He has become a stalwart for the side and shown wisdom beyond his years, though for Chelsea to convince the big-spending Parisians to sell at the last minute would certainly take a big offer.

Chelsea were also believed to be pursuing Aymen Abdennour, however they were unable to get an agreement out of Valencia. If Mourinho goes without a defender as the clock ticks past 6pm, he will certainly be disappointed with the side looking to win back-to-back title medals and become serious contenders in the Champions League.
