Overview

Federer has been in fine form so far in this year's US Open as the former World No 1 has dropped only a set so far in the competition. In the previous round, the 33-year-old had no trouble in registering yet another victory in the final Grand Slam event of the year.

The five-time US Open winners had a comfortable win over Roberto Bautista Agut in the fourth round of the ongoing competition. Federer defeated him in straight sets 6-4, 6-3-6-2 to make it to the quarter finals.

Meanwhile, Monfils has been enjoying a brilliant run so far in the US Open. The French professional tennis star has won all his first four matches in straight sets and is yet to drop a single set.

The 28-year-old had a scare in the fourth round clash against Grigor Dimitrov as he won all the three sets on a tie breaker. He would hope to avoid the situation he had against the Bulgarian when he takes on Federer on Thursday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The former World No 1 is the favourite to win the clash on Thursday and he has to do that by registering another victory over his quarter final opponent.
