Football News Roundup 3/10/12

There was a hat trick of away victories for British sides in the Champions League last night, as Chelsea thrashed FC Nordsjaelland 4-0, Manchester United beat Cluj 2-1, and Celtic snatch a dramatic last minute goal in a 3-2 win over Spartak Moscow.

Whilst Chelsea ended up winning their game comfortably, United were forced to sweat after conceding an early goal once again this season. Star striker Robin Van Persie bagged two goals in the game, but admitted afterwards he wants to become more of a team player:

"I want to make more assists, I have made only one. I would like to improve that."

With Wayne Rooney starting alongside Van Persie for the first time last night, the two will be looking to share the spoils and form a lethal partnership up front this season.

The two other British sides, Arsenal and Manchester City, will try to make it a clean sweep of British victories this week when they take on Greek side Olympiakos and Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Arsenal will be looking to recover from their 2-1 loss at home to Chelsea at the weekend, their first defeat this season.

Manchester City meanwhile are searching for their first win in Europe this season, after they lost an enthralling contest 3-2 against Real Madrid a fortnight ago. The Premier League champions crashed out in the group stages of the competition in their Champions League debut last year, and Roberto Mancini has already warned his players that they must improve quickly if they are to progress further in Europe.
