Vanilla Ice after his release from police cell in Palm Beach County

The man better known to the world as Vanilla Ice is in hot water with the law after being arrested for burglary.

Ice - real name Robert Van Winkle, 47 - was held by police in Florida after items of furniture went missing from an empty home next door to a property he was renovating for a TV show.

Lantana police said the items were later found at an address associated with the former rapper, who is famous for the early 90s song 'Ice Ice Baby.'

Van Winkle gave himself up to police and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of grand theft.

Speaking to reporters following his release, Van Winkle admitted the incident was not a stunt for 'The Vanilla Ice Project' on the DIY Network.

"There's nothing fun about this. I wish everybody all the best, and maybe some of the good news will travel this fast in the future."

A police statement said: ""During the investigation, it was determined Robert Matthew Van Winkle played a role in the burglary and theft.

"A search warrant was obtained and executed in unincorporated Palm Beach County in which several of the stolen items were recovered at a residence under the care and control of Robert Van Winkle."
