As US President Donald Trump faces heat over the Time magazine dispute and his attack on CNN over the weekend, Twitter is mercilessly roasting the president with people poking fun at his numerous scandals, controversies and shortcomings thus far with the viral hashtag #RoastTrumpIn4Words.

Twitter erupted with a slew of jokes, comments and memes to taunt the president over various issues including his policies, controversial statements and failings by his administration.

Some people took aim at Trump in light of the ongoing probes into Russian interference and possible collusion between Trump's campaign team and Moscow, particularly special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

"Donnie golfs, Mueller works," one Twitter user wrote. A second added: "It's Mueller time, b**ches!"

Many poked fun at Trump over his earlier controversies from the infamous "covfefe" incident and his penchant for golf to his continued jabs at his predecessor Barack Obama and former Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton.

"She won the election," one person tweeted.

"Obama followers: 97.4 M, Trump followrs: 43.4 M", another chimed.

Others chose to take aim at his more recent controversies including his claim that he turned down Time magazine "Person of the Year" honour this year. The publication later refuted Trump's tweet saying the president is "incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year", triggering yet another separate torrent of merciless mocking.

While one person called him an "embarrassment to America", TV writer Bryan Behar questioned: "You mean, former president?"

"Can't wait for 2020," one user tweeted.
