Zayn Malik solo career
Zayn Malik quit One Direction in March to be a "normal 22-year-old" but if the rumours are to be beleived, he is all set to return to the band Reuters/Andrew Burton

It's been four months since Zayn Malik sensationally quit One Direction, but the rumours that he might yet reunite with his band mates show no signs of stopping.

In fact, if the latest Twitter trend is to be believed, the 22-year-old is all set to announce that he'll be rejoining the band this Sunday. (26 July)

The hashtag #ZaynIsComingBackOnJuly26 was trending on Twitter, sending beleagured Directioner's into meltdown.

The rumour has prompted mixed reactions from the fans, with many expressing their fears that their hopes might be raised once again, only to discover there is no truth to the reports.

One wrote: "PLEASE STOP PLAYING WITH THE FEELINGS OF ZAYN GIRLS! WE'VE HAD ENOUGH!"

Another added: "HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE TRENDED THIS WITHOUT CONFIRMATION."

"you're going back to @onedirection ? say yes !! I love you xx" said one hopeful fan.

The rumours began to surface after Zayn was engaged in a Twitter spat with music producer Naughty Boy. The two had earlier struck up a friendship and the La La La producer was alleged to have been a factor in Zayn's defection from One Direction. He was slammed by Louis Tomlinson for being insensitive after he shared what appeared to be Zayn's first solo recording.

However, after a public fall-out, in which Zayn described Naughty Boy as a 'fat joke' on Twitter, it appears there's no love lost between the two.

Zayn's subsequent tweet to Liam Payne, as the band marked their five year anniversary, also spurred on reports of a possible reconciliation.

Liam tweeted: "Wowwwww 5 years 5 boys what an amazing journey I couldn't thank you all ever enough and thank you Louis Niall Harry and zayn for everything"

Zayn replied: "Thanks for all the memories boys I love you all"

Paying tribute to his former bandmate Liam added: "WE WILL NEVER FORGET ONE OF MY GREATEST FRIENDS ZAYN MALIK AS HE HAS CONTRIBUTED SO MUCH TO ONE DIRECTION OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS."

While there has been no confirmation by any member of the band or their management team and no comment from Zayn himself about a possible reunion, 'one way or another' it won't be long before the fans discover whether or not Zayn Malik is set to return to the band that made him.
