Lewis Hamilton will take pole position at the Austrian Grand Prix after edging ahead of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg in qualifying.

2014 champion Hamilton span out into the run-off area at Turn One in his final lap, leaving the door open for his teammate to steal an advantage.

Rosberg, however, passed up the opportunity to break ahead, spinning out himself on the final corner of his lap.

Rosberg finished within 0.355 seconds off his teammate.

Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari finished in third place ahead of Williams' Felipe Massa.

"It was quite a difficult qualifying with the track conditions," said Hamilton. "I was grateful I got my third lap in on the first run in Q3. I was pushing that bit extra on the next run and just locked the rears.

"I wasn't too concerned about losing pole at that time because I was trying to get the car going, but obviously afterwards I was thinking: 'I probably lost it there.'"
