Theo Hernandez has reportedly undergone a medical with Real Madrid ahead of a shock summer move from Atletico Madrid to the Santiago Bernabeu. Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester City were also linked with the left-back in recent weeks, but Spanish media now suggest everything is set for the player to join Los Blancos in a €30m (£25.4m, $32.8m) deal.

The 19-year-old defender has been one of La Liga's breakout stars for the 2016-17 campaign during a loan spell with Alaves.

Atletico were looking for him to become the long-term replacement for Filipe Luis, and last summer handed him a new deal with a €24m release clause.

But his future at the Vicente Calderon has been under question since last month when Marca reported Real Madrid were prepared to meet his buy-out clause – adding that Los Blancos had also agreed personal terms with the French starlet to serve as Marcelo's back-up for the 2017-18 campaign,

Other reports have since claimed Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Marseille and Barcelona were trying to hijack the deal as Atletico would prefer not to sell him to their neighbours.

Theo previously ruled out the possibility of a move to Liverpool or any other foreign club as he wants to stay in La Liga.

Real Madrid were his preferred option, but reports suggested Theo's entourage had advised him against such a controversial move as it would break a gentleman's agreement between the Madrid clubs.

At the weekend Theo's agent, Manuel Garcia Quilon, confirmed both Real Madrid and Barcelona had made offers to sign the left-back, but suggested the player would not make a decision on his future until the end of the campaign.

"For now he's not close to either of the teams," Quilon was quoted as saying by Catalan daily Sport. "Both are really interested but we've not closed anything with them. There are concrete offers, but we still haven't chosen. Both have made an offer to the level of his release clause.

"[Theo] will be the person to decide where he wants to go. They pay the clause and it's the player who decides."

But it looks as though the decision has already been made as Marca, AS and Mundo Deportivo now claim that the player underwent a medical with Real Madrid on Monday morning (8 April).

Mundo Deportivo added that the deal is not done yet but the medical indicates everything is set for Theo to become the first summer signing for Real Madrid ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

Marca suggests Los Blanco will wait to make the signing official until after the Copa del Rey final between Theo's current side Alaves and Barcelona on 27 May.

AS adds that the final deal could be completed for €30m – €6m more than the release clause - due to an agreement between Real Madrid and Atletico over cross-city transfers.
