West Midlands Police have charged a man with the murder of Lukasz Furmanek and the attempted murder of another man after a double stabbing in Handsworth, near Birmingham.

Abdullah Atiqzoy, 18, from Elizabeth Crescent, Oldbury, was charged on Monday (8 June) following his arrest on Saturday and initially appeared before magistrates yesterday (Tuesday).

The charges are in connection with the murder of 24-year-old Furmanek and the attempted murder of a 31-year-old man.

Furmanek suffered stab injuries during an altercation in Grove Lane, near to Holly Road, at around 3am on Sunday morning (31 May).

Despite paramedics' best efforts, Furmanek died at the scene while the second victim was taken to hospital, where he was in a critical condition.

Police conducted a finger-tip search of the area as well as house-to-house inquiries in the wake of the death.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, arrested on Friday are currently on bail until next month pending further inquiries.
