Budget airline easyJet has joined the Black Friday bandwagon by launching a five-day offer on holiday packages booked on its website.

During what the company has labelled "Orange Weekend", which will run from Black Friday (25 November) until midnight on Wednesday (30 November), passengers will be able to get £40 off when they spend a minimum of £800 on a holiday.

Holidays to Sicily including seven nights accommodation and return flights start from £427.55 per person, while the same deal for a stay on the Greek island of Santorini costs £437.29 per head while a seven-night return flight package to the Canary Islands starts from £488.09.

The Portuguese resorts of Algarve and Madeira are also available, as are Ibiza and Fuerteventura in Spain, Sardinia and Cyprus.

To take advantage of the discount, customers have to enter the code ORANGE16 when booking on easyJet's website. The company stated a deposit of £60 per person applies for bookings made more than 45 days before departure and passengers have to travel on flights departing between 1 January and 24 September next year.

A number of airlines, including Ryanair and British Airways are running promotions covering the Black Friday weekend, while low-cost airline Norwegian will have separate deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Earlier this month, easyJet blamed "unprecedented external events" for a sharp decline in annual profits, as unfavourable foreign exchange currencies contributed to a drop in revenue even though the airline carried a record number of passengers during the period.

There was, however, brighter news on the passengers front, as the airline carried a record 73.1 million travellers in the period, 6.6% higher than in the previous year, while the load factor rose from 91.5% to a record-high 91.6%.
