Dozens are feared dead in a deadly explosion that ripped through the Afghan capital Kabul.

The exact death toll in the blast is yet to emerge, but eyewitness reports suggest there were several civilian bodies lying in the streets.

According to one report, two foreign soldiers are among those killed.

The blast reportedly took place close to the Kabul airport, a short distance from the country's Supreme Court building.

Some reports said the blast occurred close to the US embassy and that a siren in the building went off.

According to initial reports, the blast was triggered by a suicide bomber near a convoy of foreign security personnel.

Afghan authorities are yet to comment on the explosion.

Afghan forces are battling growing Taliban insurgency as the militants attempt to capitalise on the ongoing political turmoil with no effective government in sight.
