A green fireball streaked across the sky over California on 26 April, leading people on social media to speculate as to what it was.

The US Strategic Command, quoted in CBS Los Angeles, said it does not believe the object was man-made. In a statement, the agency said the object did not appear to be a tracked satellite in its database, which led experts to conclude that it wasn't the re-entry of something like a satellite.

Dashcam footage provided by several users on YouTube showed the green fireball shoot across the sky and in to the distance. It was visible from the Mexican border to the northern part of Ventura County.
