Cheryl Fernandez Versini proved she's come along way from her former life on a council estate in Newcastle, as she took to the red carpet in Cannes against the backdrop of the French Riviera.

The former Girls Aloud singer turned on the glamour as she made her entrance at the Irrational Man première.

The 31-year-old showed off her toned physique in a bold pink SS15 dress by Ralph and Russo. The backless dress had a plunging lace design, with a dramatic scooped cape and train, collar and a daring thigh-high slit.

The L'Oreal ambassador famed for her natural beauty accessorised with her dress with diamond drop earrings, while her hair was styled into a modern wet look up do.

Cheryl was joined by her husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, who she met in France and married after a whirlwind three month courtship.

Earlier she posted a cheeky video announcing her arrival on the Riviera, with the message: "Morning Cannes."

While Cheryl stole the spotlight, she was surrounded by Hollywood A listers. Actress Emma Stone wore a delicate white gown with a gauze train as she joined Woody Allen on the red carpet for the lavish première.

Rachel Weisz also opted for white but added some shimmer in a sparkling silver shoulder panel with cleavage enhancing cut outs . She as accompanied by Colin Farrell, French actress Lea Seydoux and British Actress Jessica Barden at the première of The Lobster.

The 68th Cannes Film Festival officially opened on Wednesday (13 May) and runs until 24 May when the coveted Palme d'Or prize will be awarded to one of 19 films competing for top honours this year.

Among the contenders for the award, 2012 jury president, Nanni Moretti, is in competition with Mia Madre as well as Palme d'Or laureate Gus van Sant with The Sea of Trees and Todd Haynes with Carol.
