Photographs of Catherine, Princess of Wales, at the recent London premiere of Digger have prompted renewed online discussion about a scar near her left temple, with some Reddit users attempting to connect it to unproven claims involving Prince William.

Catherine attended the film's world premiere with William at the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square on Tuesday, 22 September. The event was the 73rd Royal Film Performance and saw the couple meet Tom Cruise and members of the cast and creative team.

The scar itself is not new. It was publicly discussed in 2011 after photographs of Catherine at a charity dinner showed a roughly three-inch mark near her left temple. St James's Palace confirmed at the time that it was connected to a childhood operation but declined to disclose what the procedure involved, citing her privacy.

The scar attracted attention when Catherine, then the Duchess of Cambridge, attended her first solo engagement as a member of the Royal Family at Clarence House in October 2011.

Her partly swept-back hairstyle exposed the mark above her left temple, prompting speculation about its origin. A St James's Palace spokesperson subsequently confirmed that it was the result of an operation during her childhood.

The palace did not identify the operation or explain why it had been necessary. Medical experts quoted in contemporary coverage offered possible explanations, but stressed that the cause could not be established from photographs alone. None of those theories was confirmed by the Royal Family.

The latest discussion centres on photographs from the Digger premiere. Reddit users have compared recent and older images of Catherine, with some claiming the mark is connected to Prince William.

One recent Reddit thread explicitly referred to it as the 'William scar', while another contained comments suggesting an alleged connection to William. Other users disputed those claims and pointed to the longstanding explanation that the scar dates from a childhood operation.

The Reddit posts do not provide evidence establishing a connection between the scar and William. The scar was publicly documented more than a decade before the events that fuelled more recent speculation about the couple.

2024 Speculation Added to Online Discussion

Catherine's prolonged absence from public duties in early 2024 generated widespread speculation about her health and private life. Kensington Palace announced in January that she had undergone planned abdominal surgery and would not return to official duties for several months.
