Drogba

Even though Jose Mourinho recently closed the door to further additions this summer, prestigious French newspaper L'equipe claim Chelsea are eventually set to complete formalities for Didier Drogba's return to Stamford Bridge.

Having signed Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, Filipe Luis and youngster Mario Pasalic –who will play on loan at Elche – Mourinho recently said: "The transfer market closes on 31 August and we close our market on July 19.

"We finished the market today, the club did fantastic, we knew the targets, we knew the players and the club attacked them and their clubs at a very early stage," the former Real Madrid manager said, I dont think we will sign any more players. The market is open, but we are so happy with what we have. We feel that our squad is what we want," the Blues boss said.

However, L'equipe reports Drogba will eventually rejoin the Blues in the coming days.

The French newspaper claim the Chelsea legend will return to west London as a free-agent, after ending his contract with Galatasaray, and will sign a one year contract with the Blues.

After the departures of Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba to Besiktas, L'equipe claims Chelsea eventually need a number nine to complete the squad – especially considering that Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku may also leave the team this summer.

The Ivory Coast international spent eight seasons at Stamford Bridge and was crucial in clinching the Champions League crown in 2012 - heading the equaliser in regulation time and scoring the decisive penalty in the shootout against Bayern Munich.

He moved to the Chinese Shanghai Shenhua as a free-agent before joining Galatasaray six months later.
