Clive Goodman has been charged with public office misconduct at a south London police station.

The former royal editor of the News of the World was bailed and will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 29 November.

He faces two charges of conspiring with the paper's former editor, Andy Coulson, to commit misconduct in public office.

These offences are alleged to have taken place between August 2002 and January 2003, and then again between January and June 2005.

Goodman, 55, was first arrested over phone hacking charges in 2006. He was jailed for four months in January 2007 after pleading guilty to intercepting phone messages from Clarence House.

He was fired from News of the World in 2007 but was paid £243,000 in compensation shortly after.

On Tuesday, Coulson and his predecessor Rebekah Brooks were charged with offences relating to phone hacking at the News of the World.
