England player in alleged blackmail attempt over Snapchat threesome video

An England footballer has turned to the police after claims he was being blackmailed over a threesome video shared on Snapchat, according to the Sun newspaper. The player, who was not named by the newspaper, is filmed along with a male friend having sex with a dark-haired woman.

It is understood that the player's friend, who features in the video, shared the eight-second clip to a third party, believed to be a childhood friend. It is thought that the alleged blackmailer managed to save the video by using a third-party application. It has subsequently been shared by number of people near where the player grew up. Snapchat videos are supposed to delete automatically once they are viewed.

According to the Sun journalist who viewed the video, the clip starts with the other man filming the footballer who looks at the camera. He then films the dark-haired woman, whose face is not seen, who is performing a sex act on the friend.

The video was shared by the footballer's pal without the England star's knowledge. The footballer was contacted around three weeks ago by the alleged blackmailer, who threatened to release the video clip.

A close source to the footballer told the Sun: "After threats were made by an individual to publish the clip he straight away contacted the police and later met with officers." He added: "He was unaware the video was shared to friends over social media — and it certainly wasn't shared by him. He would have never agreed to having the video shared either."

The case is being investigated by the police and the video clip forms a central part of their enquiries. A police statement said: "We can confirm we are investigating a complaint of blackmail, which was received on October 2." It added: "To date there have been no arrests."

The unnamed player is not the first footballer to be filmed in a threesome, earning them notoriety. Earlier this year, Leicester City players Tom Hopper, 21, Adam Smith, 22, and James Pearson also 22, were fired after they filmed themselves in degrading sex acts with hookers on a pre-season tour in Bangkok, Thailand.
