Kash Patel Under Fire as FBI SWAT Team Assigned to Protect Girlfriend Alexis Wilkins
Kash Patel's unprecedented security measures for Alexis Wilkins spark controversy.

FBI Director Kash Patel is facing internal and public scrutiny after assigning an open-ended, round-the-clock tactical security detail to his girlfriend, the country music singer Alexis Wilkins.

The unprecedented arrangement has seen agents from the bureau's Special Weapons and Tactics division escort the 27-year-old to hair salon appointments, conservative fundraisers and an exclusive dinner in the UK. Former officials have described the deployment of specialist officers—ordinarily reserved for counterterrorism and high-risk arrests—as a significant misuse of government resources.
The FBI maintains that the security posture is necessary. Ben Williamson, a bureau spokesperson, stated that Wilkins requires continuous protection because she faces 'more than a dozen active death threats', including some featuring graphic violence, directly resulting from her relationship with Patel. Last November, Williamson indicated to media outlets that the number of threats was in the 'hundreds'.
Kash Patel Bypasses Standard Security Protocols
Despite these threats, providing a full-time government detail to a director's partner is a departure from established protocols. Historically, spouses of FBI directors received protection only when travelling alongside them. Christopher O'Leary, a former senior executive in the bureau's counterterrorism division, condemned the arrangement. 'If you want to be a celebrity or a social media star, get your own security,' he said, adding that the 'inappropriateness of this cannot be overstated'.
Shortly after taking office last February, Patel reportedly increased staffing in Nashville, Tennessee, where Wilkins resides, and assigned a dedicated four-agent tactical unit and two vehicles to her. According to an internal official, Patel bypassed recommendations from within the bureau that the arrangement undergo a formal legal review.
Kash Patel Defends Girlfriend Travel Arrangements
The detail has accompanied Wilkins on extensive domestic and international travel. In January, agents secured a California country club fundraiser where she sang the national anthem before driving her 135 miles to Los Angeles International Airport. Last May, tactical officers and an embassy vehicle were scrambled to transport Wilkins to a dinner with King Charles III at Windsor Castle, after the UK's Royalty and Specialist Protection service refused to collect her from the airport.
Patel, 46, has dismissed allegations of impropriety regarding these travel arrangements and his use of government aircraft. Appearing on a conservative podcast, he insisted that he was not exploiting agency resources, noting that if he were, he would 'go see every one of her shows'. He has previously used social media to describe her as a 'rock-solid conservative' who has contributed immensely to the nation.

Girlfriend Alexis Wilkins Faces Online Controversy
Wilkins, whose debut single Holdin' On was released in 2020, met the director in late 2022 at a Nashville record release party. Her professional presence has since shifted towards the political sphere. Following brief stints working for Women for Gun Rights and Arizona Congressman Abraham Hamadeh, she has styled herself as a political commentator.
She recently filed defamation lawsuits seeking $5 million each against three conservative influencers who alleged she was an Israeli intelligence operative. Wilkins has also drawn attention for her outspoken online commentary, recently labelling a nurse killed by federal agents in Minneapolis as a 'domestic terrorist'. She has declined to comment on the record regarding her security arrangements.
