Six people are feared dead after a bin lorry crashed into pedestrians in Glasgow City centre.

The vehicle mounted the pavement before going through the lights at George Square and hitting the Millennium Hotel where pedestrians were waiting to cross the road outside Queen Street Station, the Daily Record reported.

Their chief football writer Keith Jackson said: "It's a scene of panic down here. There's people being treated by paramedics in Royal Exchange Square. There's walking wounded and lots of people crying and upset.

"It's pretty unbelievable; horrendous."

Roads surrounding George Square, in the city centre, have been closed while emergency services attend to the scene.

A spokesman for Police Scotland could not confirm whether there had been any fatalities at this stage.
