'I Feel... Hawk Tuah'd': Hunter Biden's $LAPTOP Meme Coin Traders Rage After Chaotic Debut
Hunter Biden claims there was an issue in the first 30 seconds of launching his $LAPTOP meme coin

Hunter Biden's $LAPTOP meme coin crashed by over 95% within hours of launch on Wednesday, compelling many investors to draw parallels with the alleged $TRUMP meme coin crash in 2025 and Hawk Tuah girl Hailey Welch's botched cryptocurrency launch in 2024, which led to massive investor losses in a short span.
The $LAPTOP meme coin opened at $37.26 and shot up to $222.75 per token within five minutes, according to data from Coinmarketcap. The six-fold gain in value was short-lived after the cryptocurrency tanked to a measly $1.86 per token.
Around 20% of the $LAPTOP token supply is supposed to be sent, in two tranches, to crypto wallets belonging to people who lost money on $TRUMP, subscribers to Biden's Substack, and a mailing list curated by his friend, Andrew Callaghan, a video journalist.
Biden and other founders held 30% of coins issued, with a part of the remaining supply dedicated to charities.
Now, investors are raging about losing their hard-earned money, while highlighting their diminishing faith in the crypto sector. One of the alleged investors said on Biden's recent post on Medium: 'I can't believe I support a cra*k head for President one day. I feel..... Hawk Tuah'ed.'
While some investors blamed exchanges like Kraken for allegedly participating in what they described as a scam, many claimed to have lost years of savings in this crypto episode.
'I bought it at a $100B market cap, and I'm down 99% right now. It's worth less than a few hundred dollars. That's almost a full 10 years of savings down the drain,' another user on the platform claimed.
Hunter Biden Fiercely Defends His Token
Amid rising public backlash, Biden explained in an X post that he was intimately involved in every discussion and every step of the way in creating the tokenomics for the meme coin, while acknowledging that it was his responsibility and pledging to investors that the team is going to sort out the problem.
'The f**k up occurred in the first 30 seconds of launching the coin, in which the market maker, for some unknown reason, only put in $5,000 of liquidity, and the demand was through the roof... They got it under control, but not before the damage was done. I am in this to the end, a 100%,' he said.

He also reiterated the airdrops for Substack subscribers and people who lost money on the $TRUMP token, while hinting about more airdrops in the future, as well as highlighting the charity component and the first-ever prediction market embedded into a coin.
'It is my fu**ing token. I've been working on this thing six months straight... I was trying to do something markedly different than what has been offered up to the community in the past two years... Something that could actually help build community,' he added.
Lastly, Biden took a jibe at celebrity-backed token launches. 'This is not some bulls**t celebrity token where I get on Twitter [X] and say "I didn't know about this, and I'm really sorry,"' he stated.
Hawk Tuah Girl's Failed Crypto Venture
Haliey Welch rose to fame in early 2024 after a viral TikTok where she coined the phrase 'hawk tuah' while sharing relationship advice. She used her newfound popularity to start the Talk Tuah podcast, launch an AI dating app, and even merchandise.
However, she faced massive criticism after the botched launch of the HAWK cryptocurrency. Mounting public outcry after investors lost significant money led to several court cases and even the involvement of the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
She pitched the HAWK crypto as a community reward for her fan base, encouraging her followers to invest. Upon launch, the coin's value declined sharply, resulting in investor losses, with many claiming to have lost their entire life savings.
Reports also emerged that insiders manipulated 90% of the HAWK token supply. Bubblemaps CEO Nicolas Vaiman had said that the HAWK team orchestrated a 'one-day pump and dump' to net $3.3 million in profits. Moreover, 17% of the token supply was set aside for over 280 early investors, most of whom dumped their holdings soon after the token was launched.
After months of investigation by the SEC, the regulator closed the case without making any findings against Welch. The SEC also did not seek any monetary sanctions against her.
Soon after, Welch admitted she didn't understand that the crypto episode would cause such financial distress to her fans. Around that time, sources said that she was looking to move on and was planning a documentary as a comeback.
