She's the Reason You're Here: Tearful Jamie Foxx Recalls How Daughter Corinne Saved His Life After Stroke

Jamie Foxx became tearful while recalling how his daughter Corinne Foxx took control during his life-threatening 2023 stroke, saying a doctor told him, 'She's the reason that you're here.'

The 58-year-old actor made the emotional revelation alongside Corinne, 32, during the 25 August episode of Baby, It's Keke Palmer. Foxx said he now calls his eldest daughter 'Michael Corleone' because she stepped in to protect him and manage the crisis while he was seriously ill.

Jamie Foxx Says Corinne Saved His Life

Foxx recalled asking his doctor what had really happened during his medical emergency after hearing different accounts of his condition.

'When I talked to the doctor, I said, "Hey, listen. I hear everybody's stories. I want to know from you what it was,"' Foxx said.

According to the actor, the doctor replied, 'Hey man, without her, you wouldn't be here.' Foxx said the doctor also told him Corinne had handled the situation unusually well while people, including the media, sought information about his condition.

'He said, "She's the reason that you're here,"' Foxx recalled, before addressing his daughter directly.

Foxx compared Corinne's actions with Michael Corleone's response after his father is shot in The Godfather, when the fictional character takes charge of protecting his family. Foxx said Corinne 'took over' in a similar way during his health crisis.

Foxx also highlighted not only Corinne's support during his recovery but also the pressure she faced while trying to protect his privacy.

Corinne Faced Online Pressure

Corinne said she was 'laser-focused' on her father's recovery but was not prepared for the intense reaction online after news of his hospitalisation became public.

'I had never been on the bad side of the internet,' she said, recalling the speculation, cloning claims and conspiracy theories that circulated while Foxx remained largely out of the public eye.

Corinne explained that she did not believe it was her place to disclose her father's medical information. Her priority, she said, was making sure he was well rather than responding to online speculation.

'The toughest part was just trying to manage that,' she said. 'They can say whatever they want, as long as he's good.'

Foxx's 2023 Brain Bleed and Stroke

Foxx was hospitalised in April 2023 while filming Back in Action in Atlanta. At the time, Corinne announced that her father had suffered a medical complication and was recovering.

Foxx later revealed in his 2024 Netflix special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was..., that he suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke. He said he did not remember 20 days of the ordeal and later woke up in a wheelchair, having to relearn how to walk.

Reflecting on the severity of his condition, Foxx also recalled a nurse telling him he was a 'miracle.'

When he asked what she meant, the nurse told him that 'less than 3% of people that come in with what you have walk out of here,' adding that she 'rolled my sleeves up' when she realised it was him in the emergency room. 'Just remember, you're a miracle, Jay,' she told him.

His sister Deidra Dixon also played a crucial role in getting him to hospital, while family members and medical staff supported his recovery.

Foxx has since returned to work, including his role alongside Corinne on Beat Shazam. Their latest conversation offers a new account of how his daughter responded during one of the most serious moments of his life.

The father and daughter have continued working together professionally, making their latest conversation particularly personal. Their appearance also comes as Beat Shazam reaches its 100th episode, another milestone the pair have shared while Foxx continues rebuilding his career after the stroke.
