Liverpool midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira will reportedly be given an opportunity to fight for a place in the Reds' first-team once he returns to Anfield at the end of the season.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Portuguese midfielder, who is currently on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, has impressed the manager sufficiently to warrant an opportunity with the first-team.

Teixeira, who joined Liverpool from Sporting Lisbon in 2012, has been impressive since his temporary move to the Amex Stadium at the start of the current campaign, and has thus far scored six goals in 28 appearances for Chris Hughton's Championship outfit.

The Portuguese youth international, who has one year remaining in his contract with the Merseyside club, will be given a chance by manager Brendan Rodgers, after he is impressed with the work done by the 22-year-old thus far during his loan spell.

The report claims that the midfielder will travel with Liverpool for their pre-season tour of Australia in July, where he will be given a chance to prove to the manager regarding his ability to cut it with the best.

Teixeira understands that he faces a major task to break into the Reds first-team due to the quality of players at their disposal, but has vowed to give it his best to get an opportunity to play in the Premier League with Liverpool.

However, the midfielder has admitted in the past that he is open to making a permanent move to Brighton if he fails to make the grade at Anfield.

"It's really difficult because Liverpool are a big club with great players, but you dream of playing Premier League football with Liverpool," Teixeira said.

"I really want that and I'm going to work for it but you never know what's going to happen in the future."

"Of course I would see Brighton as an option, I like everything here. I like the city and it's really nice living here," the Portuguese midfielder admitted.
