Popstar Katy Perry has sensationally pulled out of the People's Choice Awards just hours before the show.

Despite claims that her soon to be ex-husband, Russell Brand, had been uninvited to the star-studded event to prevent a confrontation between the pair, the star has revealed that she will also not be attending Awards ceremony, which is due to take place on 11 January in Los Angeles.

The 27-year-old singer, who has kept a low profile since it was announced that her and estranged husband Brand were set to divorce, took to Twitter to share the shocking news with fans.

Perry tweeted: "Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS"

Millions of fan will be left devastated after the I Kissed a Girl hitmaker, who up for seven awards including Favourite Pop artist, Favourite Female artist and Favourite song of the year, cancelled her first public appearance since Brand filed for divorce on 30 December 2010.

She is also nominated for an award in the Film category for her vocal role in the Smurfs and for her cameo in How I Met Your Mother.
