Hannah Einbinder has taken a swipe at Ed Sheeran amid the fallout over Macklemore's removal from the singer's US tour, joking that she hopes the redheaded star suffers a particularly painful sunburn.

The Hacks actress reposted a graphic putting Sheeran's reported net worth at $400 million (£296 million) before adding the sunburn remark, amid the backlash over Macklemore's removal from Sheeran's tour.

Her comment came as the controversy surrounding Macklemore's exit continued to grow, with several artists withdrawing from Sheeran's Loop Tour.

Einbinder shared the net-worth graphic to her Instagram Story before writing: 'Ed Sheeran i say this as a ginger. i hope you get a REALLY bad sun burn the kind on the back of your entire body where it hurts to lie down or walk or sit.'

The comment appears to be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the increased risk of sunburn associated with fair skin and red hair. Einbinder and Sheeran are both redheads, making the reference personal without directly alleging wrongdoing by the singer.

The figure in the graphic was presented as $400 million (£296 million). Celebrity Net Worth has estimated Sheeran's fortune at that level, while the 2025 Sunday Times Rich List valued his wealth at £370 million.

Comment Comes Amid Macklemore Tour Fallout

Einbinder's post came as several artists and public figures publicly backed Macklemore after his removal from Sheeran's Loop Tour. Sheeran has since said the decision was made by the promoter and venues, rather than by him.

Macklemore was dropped from the line-up after performing at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium on 4 and 5 September. During his performances, he expressed support for Palestinians, including saying 'Free Palestine' and performing his protest song 'Hind's Hall.'

The tour promoter, Messina Touring Group, later confirmed that several venues would not allow shows to proceed with Macklemore on the bill.

Robert Kraft, whose organisation owns Gillette Stadium, separately defended the decision not to allow Macklemore to perform at Sheeran's 25 and 26 September concerts, saying the venue would not provide a platform for hate speech.

As previously reported, Kraft said Macklemore's recent actions and material shown on stage, alongside what he described as a broader history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery, had led the venue to conclude that his participation crossed that line. Macklemore has rejected accusations of antisemitism.

Sheeran Addresses Macklemore's Tour Exit

Sheeran has since said the decision to remove Macklemore was not his.

In a statement shared on Instagram on Tuesday, 15 September, the singer said the decision was made by the promoter after venues said they would not host shows if Macklemore remained on the bill. He said he had spent the week speaking with venues in an effort to find a solution.

Sheeran said he wanted his concerts to remain spaces where people from different backgrounds could attend without the shows becoming political forums.

Macklemore, meanwhile, has said he and Sheeran remain friends despite a 'fundamental disagreement' over the issue.

The fallout has also affected Sheeran's remaining line-up. Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Irish band Beoga have all announced their departures from the remaining US dates, citing solidarity with Macklemore or opposition to the circumstances surrounding his removal.
