Clay Aiken has released his first new music in 18 years and announced a 2027 tour, signalling a full-scale return to the spotlight for the former 'American Idol' runner-up who became one of the show's earliest breakout stars.

Aiken, who became a household name after finishing second to Ruben Studdard during the show's second season in 2003, has launched a fresh chapter with his new single 'Rewind'. The track was performed during the 'American Idol' Season 24 finale and is the first release from a new studio album arriving on September 25, 2026.

The comeback will continue with his REWIND 2027 TOUR, giving longtime fans the chance to see the singer back on stage with new material after years away from recording.

Aiken Returns to the Stage

Aiken's return includes a performance in the Bethlehem area, where organisers are preparing to welcome back the singer whose rise to fame began more than two decades ago.

The tour represents a notable moment for Aiken because his musical comeback follows an 18-year gap between new recordings. Although he remained active in other areas of entertainment and advocacy, the release of 'Rewind' represents his first new music since 2008.

Colton Avery and Grammy Award-winning producer and songwriter Dave Audé wrote the new single, and Audé also produced the track. Aiken debuted it during the 'American Idol' finale in May, returning to the programme that first made him famous.

From Idol Runner-Up To Pop Star

After becoming the runner-up on 'American Idol' in 2003, Aiken quickly became one of the most successful recording artists to emerge from the show's early years.

He reunited with Studdard for a 2023 tour marking the 20th anniversary of their 'American Idol' season, demonstrating that the pair's connection with their original audience remained strong.

Aiken has also said that contestants from his season remain connected through a group chat more than two decades after the show. Now, however, Aiken is stepping forward with music of his own once again.

New Album and 2027 Tour

'Rewind' is being billed as the first offering from Aiken's forthcoming full-length studio album, due September 25, 2026. The project will be his first album of new material in nearly two decades.

His 2027 tour will then take that new material on the road, with dates including a February 28 performance at The Newton Theatre in New Jersey. Tickets for that show are scheduled to go on sale September 25.
