North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ended the year by visiting the opening of the country's multimillion-Pound Masik Pass Ski Resort.

Kim, who can be seen touring the resort in these photos, reportedly enjoyed skiing as a teenager studying in Switzerland, and this resort in Wonsan has long been a pet project of his.

The project has also been carried out in rivalry with South Korea, where Pyeongchang will host the 2018 Winter Olympics. North Korea's Olympic committee has gone as far as to suggest the resort could share some of the events with its neighbour.

Kim Jong Un assumed power in December 2011, after the death of his father Kim Jong-Il. Earlier this year the country's continued testing of nuclear weapons raised tensions with South Korea, and in recent months he has had both his former girlfriend and high-ranking uncle executed.
