Manchester United are reportedly set to make a £52m double swoop for Arturo Vidal and Daley Blind of Juventus and Ajax respectively.

According to the Express, Louis van Gaal has gone into overdrive following the capture of Angel di Maria for a British record fee and is now ready to sanction a double move for Vidal and Blind.

United will take their two-year spend to over £200m if they complete moves for the Chilean and the Dutchman.

The Chilean's move to Old Trafford has been one of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer, which seemed to have hit a dead end after Juventus publicly stated the midfielder was not for sale.

However, it is believed the Red Devils are reigniting their interest in the midfielder and are willing to offer the Italian champions £34m in order to bring the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder to Manchester.

Following the draw to Sunderland, on the topic of transfers, Van Gaal stated that he could not talk about signings until they were finalised but hinted United could sign big players because they are a big club.

"I cannot say anything about transfers, you have to understand that. When a transfer has been finished, then we can say something. But now you have to wait and see," Van Gaal said, as quoted in the Express.

"When the moment is there, Manchester United shall announce it."

"It is not only Di Maria - maybe [Arturo] Vidal or [Lionel] Messi! We are a big club," the former Netherlands manager added.

The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager has also been targeting some defensive reinforcements and has earmarked Ajax defender Blind.

The Dutch defender played under Van Gaal during the World Cup and, apart from playing as a left-back, he can also play as a defensive midfielder.

It is believed the Red Devils boss is planning an £18m bid to bring the defender to Old Trafford. Moreover, the player himself admitted earlier in the summer that it will be difficult to turn down overtures from European giants such as United and Barcelona.

An Ajax club source has revealed the deal to take Blind to United will be completed within the coming days: "All the talk is that a deal should be signed and sealed in the next few days. It seems Daley's set his heart on Old Trafford.

"He knows Van Gaal as he was his national coach until last month and that is in United's favour."
