Chadwick Boseman will play Black Panther in the forthcoming Marvel superhero movie.

Boseman's casting was revealed during a special fan event in which Marvel also announced their complete line-up of films through until 2019.

The 37-year-old actor is best known for playing James Brown in this year's biopic Get On Up, and has also enjoyed roles in Draft Day opposite Kevin Costner and 42.

Marvel also revealed concept art for the look of the latest addition to their superhero roster.

Black Panther, aka T'Challa, is a character who first appeared in 1966. He is the ruler of the fictional African nation of Wakanda whose nemesis, Ulysses Klaw is rumoured to be played by Andy Serkis in next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also confirmed that Black Panther would appear in Captain America: Civil War in 2016.

Black Panther will be released on 3 November 2017.
