NFL Star Maxx Crosby Claims Patrick Mahomes 'Moans' When He Hits Him on the Field
Crosby also claims Mahomes always peeks at him after he got hit

Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby has offered an amusing insight into what happens when he manages to get his hands on Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Speaking on his podcast, 'The Rush With Maxx Crosby', alongside former Eastern Michigan teammate Brogan Roback, Crosby revisited his latest meeting with Mahomes in Week 4. The discussion turned to the noise the three-time Super Bowl champion makes when he is hit.
Asked by Roback whether Mahomes makes a sound when taking a hit, Crosby initially replied, 'I don't know, maybe'. The pair then imitated the noise before Crosby clarified that it was not quite what Roback had suggested.
When asked to describe the sound as anything other than a 'moan', Crosby admitted there was little alternative.
'There's no other word to describe it [the sound Mahomes makes],' Crosby said.
The exchange was clearly light-hearted rather than a serious criticism of Mahomes. Quarterbacks routinely make noises when absorbing heavy contact, particularly when defenders get a clean shot on them. Mahomes has also built a reputation for remaining remarkably composed while playing through pressure and contact.
Mahomes Always Looks Back at Crosby
Crosby also revealed another entertaining part of their on-field encounters. According to the Raiders star, Mahomes routinely rolls over and looks back at him after being tackled. Crosby, in turn, deliberately stands over the quarterback and stares back.
'It started early. We were very close to each other, physically, out of the gate. Got some good hits on him. It's just funny, every time I hit him, he rolls over, and he peeks at me, just to see. And I'm always in his face, just staring at him,' Crosby said.
The moment captures the unusual dynamic between two players who have developed a genuine rivalry while maintaining considerable respect for each other.
Crosby entered the NFL in 2019 and has spent his entire career competing against Mahomes twice a season as AFC West rivals. The Raiders defensive end has repeatedly stressed the challenge of trying to contain a quarterback capable of extending plays outside the pocket and making throws from unconventional positions.
Mahomes, meanwhile, has previously described Crosby as the best pass rusher he has faced, pointing to the edge rusher's combination of effort, technique and skill.
A Rivalry Built on Respect and Competition
The Crosby-Mahomes matchup has become one of the NFL's more compelling individual battles. Crosby has recorded six sacks against Mahomes, along with multiple quarterback hits and tackles for loss, making him one of the defenders who has consistently caused problems for Kansas City's star quarterback.
Their rivalry has also been featured prominently in NFL coverage and Netflix's Quarterback, helping turn their exchanges into a storyline beyond the usual AFC West rivalry. Crosby has previously spoken about the importance of disrupting Mahomes rather than relying on any single method to stop him.
Yet there is little genuine animosity between the pair. Mahomes has spoken about having a 'ton of respect' for Crosby, while the Raiders star has similarly praised the quarterback's competitiveness.
That combination makes their meetings compelling. Crosby wants to put Mahomes under pressure, while Mahomes wants to escape it and make him pay.
Judging by Crosby's latest story, their rivalry remains just as entertaining away from the field.
