Nancy Guthrie Case Takes New Twist as Ex-FBI Agent Raises Possible Chilean Crime Ring Connection
Former FBI agent suggests possible link to international crime ring in Nancy Guthrie's disappearance.

The disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of television journalist Savannah Guthrie, has taken a new turn after a former FBI agent suggested the case may be linked to an organised international burglary network. The theory has added a new dimension to an already complex investigation that has drawn nationwide attention in the United States.
Authorities have not confirmed the claim, but the suggestion highlights the possibility that the case could involve organised criminal groups operating in affluent communities.
Timeline of a Disturbing Disappearance
Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills area outside Tucson, Arizona, on the evening of 31 January 2026.
The following morning, concern grew when Guthrie failed to attend a scheduled online church service. Family members went to check on her and discovered she was missing, prompting a call to emergency services.
Investigators soon determined the case was not a routine missing-person report. Evidence found at the property indicated she may have been taken from her home against her will. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators believed Guthrie had been abducted, noting she had limited mobility and would not have been able to leave the property unaided.
Blood matching Guthrie's DNA was later discovered near the entrance of the residence, further strengthening the theory that a violent incident had occurred at the scene.
The FBI joined local authorities soon afterwards, launching a multi-agency search and criminal investigation.
Former FBI Agent Floats Chilean Crime Ring Theory

The latest development emerged after retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer suggested the disappearance could be connected to a Chilean theft ring known for targeting wealthy neighbourhoods.
In comments shared online, Coffindaffer said individuals linked to such groups had previously been 'charged for many high-profile burglaries of athletes like Travis Kelce that we were tracking.'

The individuals named below, tied to a Chilean theft ring, were charged for many high profile burglaries of athletes like Travis Kelce that we were tracking.

She argued that these criminal networks often operate in organised teams and specifically target properties in upscale areas similar to Guthrie's neighbourhood.
According to Coffindaffer, the suspects' clothing and behaviour in the surveillance images appeared consistent with tactics used by some burglary crews, which sometimes rely on coordinated teams and careful planning.
However, investigators have not publicly confirmed any link between Guthrie's disappearance and such a group.
Alternative Theories Also Being Examined
Other experts have suggested the incident may have stemmed from a burglary that escalated unexpectedly.
Some law-enforcement analysts reviewing the available footage have said the circumstances could point to a botched break-in rather than a planned kidnapping.
The remote nature of the Catalina Foothills neighbourhood may also have contributed to the suspect's ability to avoid detection, as the area contains fewer traffic cameras and surveillance systems than more densely populated urban locations.
Authorities continue to review surveillance footage from neighbouring homes and digital evidence collected from nearby devices in the hope of identifying the suspect.
Family Appeals for Information
Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC's Today programme, has stepped away from some professional duties to focus on the search for her mother.
In public appeals, the family has urged anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie's disappearance to contact investigators, expressing hope that she may still be alive.
For now, the case remains unsolved. Law-enforcement agencies say they are continuing to analyse evidence and pursue leads, including tips from the public and possible international angles raised by investigators and former officials.
