He has enjoyed the glitz and glamour that comes with being a successful singer/songwriter, but now Ne-Yo is after the more simple things in life.

According to TMZ, the 31-year-old star may soon be switching careers after becoming the proud owner of a farm in Alpharetta, Georgia.

The gated property, which features five bedrooms, three bathrooms sits on two acres of farmland costing an impressive $520,000 (£333,000).

Although the new home is a "hobby farm", Ne-Yo may welcome the idea of some peaceful farming after the stressful few months he has had.

In August, his 'nice guy' image took a battering after his former fiancé Monyetta Shaw claimed that not only did he let her believe their relationship was leading to marriage, but she agreed to be sterilised and have "her tubes tied and burned" at his request.

She made the shocking revelation during an episode of VH1 reality show Atlanta Exes, expressing her regret.

"What if I meet the one and he doesn't have kids? I can't give you kids. That right there, it gets me. It makes me angry. From that, that's why I see why some women are bitter," the mother-of-two told CeeLo Green's former wife, Christina Johnson.

In the wake of the backlash Ne-Yo hit back at critics, insisting that everyone makes mistakes.

"Anybody else passing judgment on me for my past mistakes and immaturities is more than welcome to it," he said in a post on Instagram.

"Your opinion is your own to do with as you please. The ONLY judgment I'm truly concerned with is the ONLY one that matters. Mistakes will be made, that's human."
