Xhaka calls for the ball

Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon thinks Arsenal's new signing Granit Xhaka is similar to Charlie Adam. The 23-year-old midfielder, who is rumoured to have been signed for a fee of around £30m ($44m), has been playing for Switzerland at Euro 2016 – and Lennon has likened his playing style to that of the former Liverpool winger.

Lennon admitted he has not been especially impressed with the new Arsenal man, who has joined the club amid glowing reviews of his performances in the Bundesliga last season. Lennon says he has merely been "alright" in the tournament to date.

"I've not been that impressed," Lennon told BBC Radio 5 live of the Arsenal midfielder. "He, Xhaka, is alright. He reminds me of Charlie Adam."

His remarks come shortly after Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted he was not looking to make too many more signings before the start of the Premier League season. "So we've bought one midfielder and we're still in the market to buy one or two more players," the Arsenal manager told French TV.

"It is not just buying. We have to keep a good balance. If you buy too many players you destabilise your team. So three is the maximum."
